What’s New in North Lake Tahoe Winter 2024/2025 

Business updates, winter events, stewardship updates and more. 

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev., Dec. 10, 2024 – Winter in North Lake Tahoe is a wonderland of snow-capped peaks and exhilarating skiing and snowboarding. Beyond the slopes, visitors can enjoy winter activities, including snowshoeing, ice skating and more. The destination’s 12 cozy mountain towns invite you to warm up by the fire, indulge in delicious local cuisine and soak up the festive atmosphere. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping adventure or peaceful relaxation, here’s what to expect in North Lake Tahoe this winter.  

Events: 

  • From Dec. 14 through Dec. 15, Tahoe Live will return to Palisades Tahoe, featuring performances by Lil Wayne, Diplo, Loud Luxury and more. Passes range from $137.91, plus taxes and fees, for a one-day pass, or $217.22, plus taxes and fees for a weekend pass. 
  • Santa Ski Day will take place at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All skiers who arrive dressed up in a Santa costume can redeem a discounted lift ticket.  
  • Crystal Bay Club, North Lake Tahoe’s premier music venue with stunning acoustics and a cozy mountain vibe, has a variety of upcoming live music events, including shows by Boombox (Dec. 13 and Dec. 14), Boot Juice (Dec. 20), SkiiTour DJs (Dec. 21), The Funk Hunters (Dec. 31) and more. Tickets range from $15 to $55+ for general admission, depending on the show. 
  • Santa and Penguin Pete will be at Diamond Peak on Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Guests can celebrate the holidays and take a selfie with Santa and Penguin Pete while they hand out stickers and treats. 
  • Everline Resort and Spa is gearing up for a festive holiday season, offering holiday dining experiences at their on-site restaurants, Cascades and Six Peaks Grille. Cascades will feature a Christmas Eve buffet dinner on Dec. 24 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., a Christmas Day buffet dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a New Year’s Eve buffet dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. At Six Peaks Grille, a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day prix-fixe dinner will be available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On New Year’s Eve, a prix-fixe dinner will take place, starting at 5 p.m. Prices vary per dinner. 
  • The annual Poker Run at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort will take place on Jan. 12. This family-friendly scavenger hunt invites skiers to ride to different “poker chip stations” on the mountain to earn cards. There will be an afterparty with live music and awards. All proceeds will benefit local schools in Truckee.  
  • On Jan. 31, Diamond Peak will host its annual Ullr Fest Parade and Community Party to raise funds for the Diamond Peak Ski Team (DPSEF). From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., join Diamond Peak for an evening of fun with a torchlight parade, bonfire, music, raffles, food and more. 
  • Last Tracks Wine and Beer Tastings at Diamond Peak will return on Feb. 5 and run through March 26. Intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders can take the last chairlift up to Diamond Peak’s mid-mountain Snowflake Lodge and enjoy wine tastings paired with appetizers before skiing down a freshly groomed run at sunset. Schedule of wineries, ticket sales, and event details will be available in Jan.  
  • The North Lake Tahoe SNOWFEST, one of the largest winter mountain festivals on the west coast, will return from Feb. 28 through March 9. Activities will include live music, fireworks, a pancake breakfast, parade, polar bear swim, black out bingo, bar Olympics and more. The SNOWFEST Kick-off Party will take place on Feb. 27 at Gar Woods Grill & Pier from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. 
  • Granlibakken Tahoe will host a Valentine’s Day Dinner on Feb. 14. Share a cozy and delicious evening at Cedar House Pub, featuring a gastro pub menu and fireside dining inside the Main Lodge at Granlibakken Tahoe. Details on time and pricing are TBD. 

Parks and Recreation Updates: 

  • Tahoe City Winter Sports Park opened for the season on Nov. 30. The park is currently open for ice rink use only. Online reservations for the Sled Hill, Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Trail will be available in the near future.  
  • Tahoe Adventure Company will have Full Moon Snowshoe Tours through May 2025. Throughout the moonlit tour, guides will discuss natural history and astronomy as well as share fascinating facts about the moon. There is a four-person minimum to run the tour and tickets are $90 per person. 
  • DL Bliss State Park will remain closed for camping and partially closed for day use into summer 2025 due to a large-scale water infrastructure construction project. For the most up-to-date information on Emerald Bay State Park and its surroundings, visit parks.ca.gov 

Ski Resort Updates: 

  • From Dec. 7 through Dec. 13 at Palisades Tahoe, kids will receive up to seven free lift tickets during Alterra Mountain Company’s Kids Ski Free Week. Designed to encourage families to share in the joy of winter sports, Kids Ski Free Week offers a free daily lift ticket for kids 12 and under to use at Alterra-owned resorts. Families can also look forward to unique offers, packages and activities to make the experience even more memorable. 
  • Free and paid parking reservations have officially returned to Palisades Tahoe and Northstar California Resort for the 2024-25 ski season. Before planning your trip, be sure to read up on how to secure parking reservations, which are generally required for Saturdays, Sundays and select holidays and peak periods.  

Stewardship Updates: 

  • The annual ‘Plates for Powder’ program is back for the 2024-25 ski season. This program offers free ski and ride opportunities to those who purchase a Lake Tahoe license plate. All proceeds from plate sales and renewals support environmental improvement projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin and help protect Tahoe’s clear blue waters, mountain forests, world-class recreation and public beaches.   • FlyTahoe and Candela are partnering to introduce the first electric hydrofoil ferry to Lake Tahoe. This innovative vessel will significantly reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption by 80 percent compared to traditional boats. The ferry, capable of carrying up to 30 passengers, will offer scenic lake crossings in just 30 minutes. It will also accommodate bikes, skis, snowboards, and wheelchair users. The ferry is slated to launch by the end of 2025 or early 2026.  

Transportation Updates: 

  • TART Connect’s winter hours will be in effect from Dec. 12 through the winter season TART Connect is North Lake Tahoe’s free curb-to-curb, on-demand shuttle service that follows a shared ride model and promotes sustainable transportation within the destination.   • Mountaineer, the free, on-demand winter micro-transit service in Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, is now operating for the 2024-2025 season. Riders can be picked up and dropped off at convenient locations, including across from CoffeeBar in the Village at Palisades Tahoe and from the Alpine Meadows breezeway. Mountaineer operates daily in Olympic Valley from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Thursday through Monday in Alpine Meadows from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Transit between the two valleys is available daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
