This is one of the most popular waterfall hikes in Lake Tahoe. You’ll witness three stunning waterfalls plus the quiet beauty of Shirley Lake. If you’d like a little respite, another option is that you can hike up to High Camp and take the tram back down.

Directions: From the Palisades Tahoe parking lot in Olympic Valley, walk to the end of Shirley Canyon Road. At the trailhead, look for the large sign and map.  

Cascade Falls

Cascades Falls Trail 

This short, stunning hike takes you through Emerald Bay State Park up to Cascade Falls. You’ll reach a picturesque view of Cascade Lake with Lake Tahoe in the distance.  

Distance: 1.5 miles roundtrip 
Difficulty: Easy 
Directions: Take Highway 89 to the Bayview Campground. Parking is just beyond the campground itself.  

Eagle Falls 

A very popular destination in Emerald Bay State Park.  It’s a short hike but at a higher gain, your legs will definitely feel it. Keep going and you’ll experience one of the most breathtaking views in Lake Tahoe. Hard work brings pure bliss. Arrive early for a parking spot. 

Distance: 1 mile 
Difficulty: Moderate 
Directions: Take Hwy 89 South from Tahoe City approximately 16 miles to the Eagle Falls Picnic area on the right. You’ll get some beautiful views of Emerald Bay.   

Galena Falls Trail 

This is a fun, moderately challenging hike that’s ideal for active families. The high elevation creates a desert-like vibe but don’t worry, there’s plenty of shade. The waterfall itself is a knockout.   

Distance: 4.8 miles  
Difficulty: Moderate  
Directions: Take Hwy 431 north from Incline Village. Park at the trailhead at the summit of the Hwy.
