What’s New for North Lake Tahoe: Summer 2016
North Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. (Summer 2016) – From new businesses and resort amenities to environmental improvements and activities, North Lake Tahoe is beckoning for summer adventures after unveiling a mountain of new projects perfect for travelers from far and wide.
New Businesses and activities:
Basecamp Hotel Tahoe City
Basecamp Tahoe City is a new boutique hotel built for exploring the incredible lakes, trails and mountains in the Lake Tahoe Basin, opened May 2016. This new outdoor-themed lodge, located in the lakeside community of Tahoe City, boasts 24 stylish rooms designed for adventure and relaxation seekers alike, with the amenities and style of a modern resort, but at reasonable prices. Guests can head out to explore North Lake Tahoe right from the hotel or hangout at the cozy lobby bar, complete with craft beer taps and communal dinners.
Wild Bill’s BBQ
Barbecue lovers rejoice after Wild Bill’s BBQ at the Incline Village Mountain Golf Course returns by popular demand. Slow-cooked meats and house-made sauces are rich with flavor. Grab a bite and sit on the deck overlooking the 10th tee, or just get a smoky treat to-go. Lighter options like veggie burgers, Caesar salads and kid-sized American classics like burgers and hot dogs are also available. Breakfast items such as oatmeal and breakfast burritos are available from 9 – 11 a.m., signature St. Louis Style Ribs, pulled pork and more served for lunch from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and a selection of grab & go items from 3 – 4 p.m.
New Mountain Biking clinic, A Singletrack Mind
A Singletrack Mind Owner Dylan Renn, with years of experience as head coach for Betterride, one of the most successful mountain bike coaching companies in the country, branches off to create his own clinic, where he instructs bikers of all skill levels to ride bigger terrain, climb more peaks and navigate tighter singletrack. A wide range of clinics for individuals, groups, women only, and more help everyone from the new rider to experts push themselves one step further.
89 Bar & Grill
Grab a beer and play classic bar games like billiards and darts at Homewood’s new hotspot open Thursday through Monday from 3 – 11 p.m. Enjoy live music in July and August on Saturday nights and chow down on a variety of menu items like Asian spring rolls, Baja quesadillas and ribeye steak tacos. Also enjoy a daily happy hour from 3 – 5 p.m. with $1 off beer, $2 off wine by the glass and half off well cocktails.
Illanta Wines
A boutique wine brand made in the North Lake Tahoe community launched for business on May 1 just in time for summer with the debut of its first vintage, a 2013 Zinfandel harvested from Napa’s Howell Mountain. Illanta donates directly to non-profit Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships, which engages local schoolchildren with science education through hands-on sustainability projects.
Bike rentals at Tahoe Cross County
Tahoe Adventure Company launches a fleet of mountain bikes designed by bike company Specialized to give riders an extra performance edge and offers rentals through a program based out of Tahoe XC in Tahoe City to serve the local biking community and introduce new riders to the joy of trail riding. Everything from bike rentals, accessories, tuning services and guided tours are located conveniently at the Tahoe XC trailhead with all the gear needed for a mountain bike adventure.
North Lake Tahoe Improvement Projects:
Truckee River Trail Restoration
This restoration will strengthen and improve various reaches of the Truckee River Trail between 64-Acres Park and the entrance of Squaw Valley Resort.
Squaw Valley Bike Trail Rehabilitation
This finalizes the rehabilitation of the asphalt surfaces of the Squaw Valley bike trail and the trail staging area located within Squaw Valley Park.
North Tahoe Shared-Use Trail
Placer County will facilitate the permitting of a trail connection between the Cedar Flat neighborhood and the North Tahoe Regional Park. This project extends the multi-use trail network in eastern Placer County by 6 miles, linking residential, commercial and recreational uses.
Water Trailway Interpretive Signage
New signage will provide useful water safety and resource conservation tips, as well as navigable paddle routes and distances to locate public beach access to shoreline businesses, nearby hiking trails, historic sites, lodging and campgrounds at six public launch landing areas within the eastern Placer County region.
North Lake Tahoe Ale Trail 2016
After the successful launch of the North Lake Tahoe Ale Trail in 2015, the trail will re-launch in 2016 with additional watering holes, activities and culinary stops. The North Lake Tahoe Ale Trail 2016 further bridges the gap between mountain sports, water sports and exploring the vast Lake Tahoe trails with a rewarding cool beverage after a day playing in the Sierra.
Highway 28 Bike Path
To accommodate the increase in residents and visitors on the Nevada side of the lake construction will begin this summer for a bike path connecting Incline Village and Sand Harbor.
Resort activities and expansions
Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe expands Wellness Activities
Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe presents the Rise & Hike series, starting every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. for resort guests to take a family-friendly guided hike to Sawmill Lake. This secluded 10-acre reservoir filled with hundreds of colorful rainbow trout swimming in the clear Sierra Nevada waters.
Also new for summer is the customized Alpen Glo yoga classes held Fridays and Saturdays at 6 p.m. in the Spa Terrace at $30 a person. Yogi Beginners and experts come together to strengthen the body and calm the mind. Continuing with new classes, Mountainside Yoga focuses on the breath and slow movements for a whole-body relaxation, starting daily at 9 a.m. in the Spa Terrace.
For the outdoor lover, two new privately guided hikes are offered beginning June 1. The 11.75-mile Watson Wildflower Hike guides guests to Watson Peak with namesake wildflowers, towering evergreen trees and Incense Cedar. Another hike available is the Lakeview Loop Hike, an eight-mile journey with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.
Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe breaks ground on Lake Club
Designed exclusively for the resort’s guests, amenities and luxury services aim to provide an unparalleled experience. A multi-level dining and bar facility with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic lake views. A private and expansive lawn extends all the way to water’s edge and an adjacent private boat pier for even more lake access. Artful architectural design blends organic materials like stone and cedar seamlessly with man-made glass and steel to capture nature in a modern twist.
Northstar California launches Specialized Bike Academy
Northstar California and Specialized, expertly designed bikes and equipment for faster rides, partner to introduce the Specialized Bike Academy. The Academy offers small group freeride mountain bike lessons in Northern California’s largest lift-served bike park. Northstar and the Specialized Bike Academy has everything a mountain biker needs including personalized instruction, certified coaches, premium bike equipment and awesome alpine terrain.
Crystal Bay Casino expands Crown Room
Opened first in December 2004, the Crown Room venue expands its capacity to 750 featuring bigger acts, shows and concerts. The venue opened with its first post-expansion act Jackie Green, a local Tahoe favorite singer-songwriter, on Tuesday, June 14.
Tahoe Donner to Purchase and Preserve 640-Acre Crabtree Canyon
Tahoe Donner Association and Truckee Donner Land Trust finalized an agreement to move forward with acquiring 640-acres of Carpenter Valley land. Activities for summer and winter will be encouraged along the land with envisions plans for a loop trail and linking Tahoe Donner to Independence Lake Preserve are in the works.
Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows heightens summer offerings
Embark on a journey up Squaw Valley’s iconic Aerial Tram up to high camp complete with three new activity packages such as The Sightseeing Package with access to Olympic Museum, The Adventure Package and Family Pass with access to lawn games, roller skating and kid-friendly play structures and miles of panoramic views.
Then, the new Summer Music Series features live music by on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August with a to be announced line up of special musical guests.
The resort’s Executive Chef Tiffany Swan and team at the MTN ROOTS Food Truck add a special buffet-style Sunday Brunch, showcasing local organic California flavors, served on the KT Sundeck at Squaw Valley to the rich lineup of Farm-to-Table dining experiences at the resort this summer.
