NORTH TAHOE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE

Who Are We?

Founded in 1954, the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce has been a strong and effective voice for the business community of the region.  In 1995 the Chamber joined forces with the North Tahoe Visitors and Convention Bureau creating a united organization  — the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA) which is now the “North Tahoe Community Alliance.”  Since that time NTCA, has served the business community as both the destination marketing organization and the chamber of commerce for eastern Placer County and the greater North Lake Tahoe region.  The organization cooperatively promotes tourism based on shared objectives among and between participating member businesses and constituents which are more effectively and efficiently accomplished collectively than independently.  Similarly, NTCA provides a full spectrum of traditional chamber of commerce services, representing, convening, advocating, and championing local businesses.

The NTCA is deeply committed to a sustainable community in balance with our vibrant visitor economy. We are focused on communicating about the North Lake Tahoe region, managing visitation and mitigating impacts, generating revenue and reinvesting locally, fostering employment, and protecting quality of life for residents through:

  • Providing local governance that transparently manages and distributes Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) funds to support tourism management
  • Guiding the investment of Transient Occupancy Tax dollars to support transportation and workforce housing initiatives
  • Advocating to County and State government on the needs of the tourism industry and supporting our local business community
  • Developing compelling promotional communications that shape our visitor base, influence how our visitors and community engage with the destination, and drive desired economic impact

The NTCA is a nonprofit public-benefit corporation.

What’s Our Mission?

The North Tahoe Community Alliance (NTCA) promotes and manages visitation and collaborates to achieve economic health, community vitality, and environmental sustainability to benefit our residents, businesses and visitors.

Where is North Lake Tahoe?

North Lake Tahoe straddles California’s eastern and Nevada’s western stateline. It is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and is 200 miles northeast of San Francisco, 98 miles northeast of Sacramento, Calif., and 45 miles southwest of Reno, Nv.

How Do We Promote Tourism?

In 1995 a North Lake Tahoe Tourism Development Master Plan was created for the region. This community-generated plan provided an outline for the continued development of North Lake Tahoe, as well as a guideline for the preservation of the area’s environment. In July 1996 the plan was adopted by the NTCA, and continues to guide the association in its endeavors today.

How is the NTCA Structured?

The NTCA Board of Directors reflects North Lake Tahoe’s diverse business community and can range between 11-17 members: six are designated seats, five are elected seats, five are seats appointed by the Board, and one seat is appointed by the County of Placer, as specified in the NTCA Bylaws.

The NTCA has three standing committees: Tourism Development, Finance, and Business Advisory Chamber Collaborative (BACC). Committee membership includes NLTRA Board members as well as community members. All committee meetings are open to the public. The NTCA is committed to incorporating public input and participation in our decision-making.

The NTCA consists of eight different departments:

1. Chamber Membership Services
2. Marketing and Tourism
3. Public Relations
4. Visitor Services
5. Finance and HR
6. Conference Sales
